Sugar Kelp Bean Buster™: Digest the Indigestible

Cooking dried beans with our Sugar Kelp Bean Buster reduces the digestive upset they cause! This package size (1.7 oz) will help you cook approximately 36 portions of beans. (1 cup of dried beans = about 6 portions of cooked beans at 1/2 cup each.)

How to Bust the Gas Out of Your Beans

The process of cooking dried beans with our Sugar Kelp Bean Buster is very simple. You don't even have to soak them overnight!

  • Add 6-7 cups of water to a large saucepan or dutch oven.
  • Add 1 cup of dried beans. (We like black beans!)
  • Bring the water to a boil, then stir in 1 tbsp of Sugar Kelp Bean Buster. Watch the pot, because the sugar kelp can create a film that may cause the heat to rise suddenly. Stir as needed, then turn to a low boil for about an hour.
  • Once your beans are cooked through and tender, strain and rinse them thoroughly. Season with a little salt and enjoy!

PLEASE NOTE: If you intend to eat your beans in a soup, we recommend cooking them separately first, then adding them to your soup. Sugar kelp is extremely rich in iodine, which will not affect your beans but will be present in your cooking water. Iodine is an essential nutrient that supports thyroid function, but excessive quantities may cause symptoms like rapid heartbeat. This is also why we do not recommend consuming your Sugar Kelp Bean Buster raw.

Our sugar kelp is farmed and harvested off the New England coast.
